The Stellar Development Foundation's $4 billion tally of tokenized assets on Stellar highlights a distinction for investors: assets recorded on a network do not determine its native token's market value.
The foundation reported $4 billion in tokenized real-world assets on Stellar as of Sept. 1, 2026. Its site also lists 67 products and 10 regulated issuers. The asset figure is separate from the market value of Stellar Lumens (XLM).
In an Oct. 19 XRP (XRP) market value reading, the token was valued at $82.24 billion at the end of that UTC day.
Market capitalization multiplies a token's price by its circulating supply. Neither the resulting valuation nor a comparison between two such valuations measures transaction volume or the value of assets issued on a network.
XLM covers transaction fees and smart-contract rent on Stellar and can meet account reserve requirements. An unsponsored basic account must maintain a 1 XLM reserve; a sponsor can cover that requirement for an account with a 0 XLM balance. Tokenizing an asset does not require an equal dollar value of XLM to be held.
On May 27, the foundation and the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) announced plans to tokenize assets held by The Depository Trust Company on Stellar. As part of DTCC's strategy to use multiple blockchains, the partners plan to evaluate U.S. Treasury bills, bonds and notes; exchange-traded funds tracking major indexes; and Russell 1000 constituents. The announcement did not identify which assets would launch or give a commercial-volume target.
DTCC and the foundation expect the project to make tokenized assets available on Stellar during the first half of 2027.
