Sterling-yen (GBP/JPY) formed a doji after six daily gains, while trading around 211.77 yen and below 212, a resistance level in FXStreet’s Wednesday analysis of the pair. The pair expresses how many yen one pound buys.

The FXStreet report, timestamped 6:06 p.m. ET (22:06 UTC) Wednesday, Oct. 21, put the exchange rate around 211.77 yen per pound. It said the pair had crossed above its 50-day simple moving average, which stood at 211.34 near the end of Oct. 20 trading. A simple moving average (SMA) averages prices over a specified number of trading days; at the cited readings, GBP/JPY was around 0.43 yen above its 50-day line.

The technical signals did not all point the same way. FXStreet described a doji after six consecutive gains as a pause in direction, while saying the Relative Strength Index (RSI), a momentum gauge, remained bullish. The outlet also noted that buyers had not pushed the pair through 212, leaving that level as resistance in its analysis.

The European Central Bank’s (ECB) Oct. 21 reference table offers another daily benchmark. It listed 177.36 yen and 0.83825 pounds per euro; dividing the yen figure by the pound figure implies 211.58 yen per pound. That is close to FXStreet’s market quote but represents a cross-rate derived from euro reference rates, not a separate intraday quotation. The ECB discourages using its rates for transactions.

FXStreet’s technical map put 212.00 at resistance, with the 200-day simple moving average at 212.98 and the 100-day average at 213.43 above it, followed by 214.00. On the downside, the outlet listed 211.00 and 210.00 if the pair fell beneath the 211.34 50-day average, followed by the Oct. 8 swing low at 208.20 and the Sept. 30 cycle low at 206.89. FXStreet presented these as possible levels if the pair declined; the Oct. 8 and Sept. 30 lows are historical levels.
