A storm-related collapse killed five displaced Palestinians, including a woman and children, in Deir al-Balah, Anadolu Agency reported, as local rescuers searched tent shelters for missing people.

Gaza Civil Defense said it had recovered five bodies. Local residents joined rescue crews in the search, which continued with basic equipment during a power outage, Anadolu reported. The agency also reported injuries.

Anadolu linked the collapse to a storm system. It said damage to homes and limits on shelter materials have left many displaced Palestinians relying on temporary shelters.

The Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine said in a Nov. 7 winter-aid appeal that nearly 950,000 displaced people were in flood-prone areas, with more than 400,000 at especially high risk. The committee said rain and severe weather had damaged many of the roughly 270,000 tents sheltering displaced families. Its warning on flood risks for displaced families also called for winter aid.
