King Khalid International Airport is preparing a terminal arrangement for domestic and national-carrier international flights as The Straits Times reports a renewed Houthi warning against using the facility.
The airport said domestic passengers will use Terminal 1, while Terminal 2 will serve international flights operated by national carriers. It advised passengers to check their bookings and flight status with their airlines before traveling.
The Straits Times attributed the warning to a Houthi spokesman, who described the airport as unsafe and a “military target.” The original Houthi statement was not located, so the warning remains unverified.
Separately, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree claimed the group attacked the Riyadh airport in two phases during the previous 24 hours, as well as airports in Dammam and Najran, Khamis Mushait air base, oil facilities and a pipeline. Agence France-Presse reported the claim in an account carried by NDTV. Reuters also reported Houthi claims of attacks on Saudi airports and oil sites; it said Saudi authorities did not comment directly, and its report did not confirm damage at the sites.
The Straits Times reported that an Oct. 10 attack at the airport killed 12 people and injured more than 300. Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation initially reported 12 deaths and 309 injuries, while The Associated Press later cited two regional officials for a toll of at least 13 dead and more than 300 injured. The Houthis had described their claimed Riyadh airport strike as retaliation for Saudi military action in Yemen.
The airport's terminal assignments take effect Sunday, Oct. 25.
