Sudan’s army has retaken the Bakori base and Ouklili area in the Blue Nile region, a county commissioner said, restoring control over a military post seized by paramilitary forces in August.
Kurmuk County Commissioner Abdelati Mohamed El Faki said in a statement that the army had regained both Bakori and Ouklili.
Sudan Tribune reported that Sudanese forces and allied troops took Bakori on Thursday after clashes with paramilitary fighters. Bakori is roughly 70 kilometers to the east of Damazin, and it houses the army’s 13th Brigade, part of the Fourth Infantry Division.
Sudan Tribune reported that the late-August capture of Bakori and Sarkam involved an alliance between Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The report places Bakori in Qeisan locality and Sarkam in Kurmuk locality.
Anadolu Agency reported no immediate response from the paramilitary forces. The conflict between Sudan’s army and the RSF began in April 2023. U.N. reports put deaths in the tens of thousands and displacement at about 13 million.
