Indian and Swedish companies may find it easier to work together under the India-EU trade pact, Swedish Ambassador Petra Menander said Nov. 4, ANI reported. The agreement still requires legal scrubbing and ratification.

Menander spoke on the sidelines of the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026 in New Delhi, ANI reported. She said the agreement could support technology transfers and joint research, and that it would “simplify cooperation between our companies.” India’s Prime Minister’s Office says the summit runs Nov. 2-5, with Sweden among nine country partners.

India-Sweden trade in goods totaled US$6.96 billion in 2024, up from US$2.86 billion in 2016, according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs. Sweden Abroad says about 300 Swedish companies operate in India and estimates they employ 220,000 people.

The European External Action Service says the agreement would lower or remove tariffs on more than 96% of trade between India and the EU, while simplifying trade rules and procedures.

India’s Department of Commerce said the two sides announced the conclusion of negotiations at their 16th summit on Jan. 27, 2026. Sweden Abroad says the pact must still undergo legal scrubbing and ratification before it can take effect.
