Swedish Parliament Speaker Andreas Norlen scheduled a vote for Tuesday on Centre Party leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist’s candidacy after she said she could not secure majority support, Reuters reported.

Thand Ringqvist had already returned her government-formation assignment to Norlen, as EconoTimes reported earlier. She ended her effort to bring centrist parties into a coalition on Monday, Reuters reported, and lawmakers are widely expected to reject her candidacy.

Reuters reported that the center-left bloc holds 176 of the Riksdag’s 349 seats. The four opposition parties back Magdalena Andersson, leader of the Social Democrats, for prime minister, but Reuters said they remain divided over which parties should join a government.

Reuters reported that recent polls show increased support for the Moderates, but there is little indication Kristersson could secure a parliamentary majority. If lawmakers reject Thand Ringqvist on Tuesday, Norlen said he will ask incumbent Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson to try to form a government.
