CLEARWATER, Fla., Oct. 12, 2017 -- On October 19th The Savoy South Dance Hall is hosting their next monthly Swing Dance for Charity event in Downtown Clearwater’s Fort Harrison, the Church of Scientology’s international religious retreat. “This is the second year we have been doing these monthly swing dance events,” said Ms. Lisa Mansell Public Affairs Director for the Church of Scientology in Clearwater. “We have been getting a lot of good response from attendees and all for a good cause.”
The Swing Dance for Charity events benefit a different charity each month, allowing dancers to contribute to many non-profits around the Tampa Bay area. Past participating charities include the Boy Scouts of America, Pinellas Sheriff’s Police Athletics League, My Hope Chest and now PCFAPA.
The event starts with a dance lesson, led by Arlene Norman of Savoy South Dance Hall & Right Step Studios. Open for over 20 years, they have provided group and private dance instructions for many different dances including Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Flamenco. This dance studio was named after The Savoy, a dance club in Harlem, New York with a ballroom 10,000 square feet in size, which was very popular in the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s.
After the lesson, the floor will be open for guests to “dance their shoes off” with a live band. It is held in the Fort Harrison’s Crystal Ballroom, known for having Florida’s only oval wooden dance floor.
For more information to attend, please contact Arleene Norman at (727) 564-6847 or email [email protected].
The Fort Harrison Religious Retreat:
Since its construction in 1927, the Fort Harrison in Downtown Clearwater has been the home for many community events and charitable organizations. The Scientology religion was founded by humanitarian and philosopher, L. Ron Hubbard, and incorporated in 1954. To learn more, visit www.scientology.org.
