The Swiss National Bank (SNB) reported CHF 44.2 billion in profit through September, with foreign-currency positions supplying most of the interim result before year-end reserve allocations.

The SNB’s release listed CHF 43.3 billion from foreign-currency positions, CHF 1.2 billion from gold and CHF 58 million from Swiss franc positions. Anadolu reported the nine-month result at $53.8 billion and put the foreign-currency contribution at $52.7 billion.

The report’s foreign-currency breakdown included CHF 29.8 billion in exchange-rate gains and CHF 23.7 billion in gains from equity securities and instruments. Those gains were partly offset by CHF 22.6 billion in losses on interest-bearing investments. The SNB listed Swiss franc and foreign-currency positions separately, so the CHF 58 million figure is not part of the foreign-currency line.

For the July-to-September quarter, the SNB recorded CHF 19.1 billion in interim profit, down from CHF 27.9 billion in the same period of 2025. Anadolu reported the quarterly total as $23.3 billion. Foreign-currency positions contributed CHF 11.6 billion in the quarter, compared with CHF 13.6 billion a year earlier.

Gold added CHF 7.6 billion in the third quarter, against CHF 14.3 billion in the year-earlier period. Total quarterly profit was CHF 8.9 billion lower year over year; reported gold contributions fell CHF 6.7 billion, while foreign-currency contributions declined CHF 2 billion. Anadolu put the latest foreign-currency contribution at $14.15 billion and the gold contribution at $9.27 billion, and reported the earlier quarter’s total at $34.04 billion.

The quarterly comparison covers July through September, while the nine-month period spans January through September. The third quarter is part of that longer reporting period, so its result is already included in the nine-month total.

The nine-month figures are unaudited and precede the SNB’s allocation to currency-reserve provisions. The bank will determine that allocation at year-end and said movements in gold, foreign-exchange and capital markets remain factors in its full-year result. The SNB said short-term market swings make the annual outcome difficult to assess from interim results.
