The Biological Computing Co. said technology behind its first AI model was named to TIME’s Best Inventions of 2026 list, spotlighting a video-generation approach intended to run on standard AI systems.
TBC announced the recognition Oct. 15 and calls its software adapter the first commercial product from its biological discovery platform. Video generation is its first application. TBC says it studies neural cultures by stimulating them with information and observing their responses, then applies findings from that research in software. TBC says the cultures remain in its lab; the product runs on conventional AI hardware and requires no biological equipment. The company describes the adapter as a software layer around diffusion transformer blocks.
In a Sept. 22 announcement, TBC and Amazon Web Services (AWS) said their optimized text-to-video model was five times faster and had 80% lower inference costs than an open-source base model, while improving quality. The companies also said the software layer adds less than 0.1% to the underlying model. The AWS announcement did not identify the base model or detail hardware, video length, test conditions or a quality measure. WIRED reported that TBC declined to identify the model used for comparison.
The companies said the model would use AWS Trainium, with deployment through SageMaker AI and a possible AWS Marketplace listing. The companies invited customers to seek early access but gave no date for general availability. AWS said lower inference costs could let platforms serve additional users with their existing infrastructure, while the announcement quantified no customer savings. TBC co-founder and COO Jon Pomeraniec said compute is becoming one of AI’s biggest constraints.
