Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) told NDTV that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay will attend the World Economic Forum’s January 2027 meeting in Davos as part of the state’s effort to attract investors.

NDTV reported the party’s confirmation on Oct. 31. The New Indian Express, citing industries department sources on Oct. 30, described Vijay’s attendance as likely. The paper had reported Sept. 20 that an unnamed senior official expected him to decide in November.

The reports cited no public confirmation from the Tamil Nadu government or the WEF. The WEF lists the meeting for Jan. 18-22, 2027, in Davos, Switzerland.

A Tamil Nadu Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) release said the government secured ₹1,02,514 crore in investment commitments through memorandums of understanding during its first 100 days. It projected the commitments would support 121,788 jobs; those figures describe expected outcomes, not completed investment or realized employment.

TVK spokesperson M Sathyakumar told NDTV that Vijay’s visit would raise the state’s profile with business leaders and help attract investment. Sathyakumar also alleged that the Union government and Ministry of External Affairs had given Andhra Pradesh more support for overseas investment outreach. NDTV reported that the BJP denied preferential treatment for Andhra Pradesh.

NDTV described Vijay as the first sitting Tamil Nadu chief minister to attend Davos, but earlier accounts do not establish that distinction. A Press Trust of India dispatch in January 2024 said then-Chief Minister M K Stalin would lead a delegation to Davos and Spain. DT Next reported that industries department officials would travel to Davos while Stalin was scheduled to visit Spain; later New Indian Express coverage identified Industries Minister TRB Rajaa as leading the state delegation at the 2024 WEF meeting.

The WEF’s 2027 meeting is scheduled for Jan. 18-22 in Davos.
