Taiwan’s stock market capitalization climbed about 61% from a year earlier at October’s end as Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) Chairman Peng Jin-lung cited technology shares as a key force behind the gain.
Peng put the market’s value at NT$158 trillion ($4.83 trillion). He said listed companies had set records for sales and profits, while technology shares benefited from demand tied to artificial intelligence.
The Taiex was above 45,000 points at October’s close, Peng said, after ending October 2025 near 28,000. He linked the market’s momentum to the AI boom and said Taiwan’s technology industries were globally competitive.
Peng said further development in the technology sector would require capital-market financing to help companies expand internationally. He described Taiwan’s ambition to become a capital hub as a way to create business opportunities for capital markets and the asset management industry.
Peng said the plan pairs looser financial regulations and asset-management development with private banking services to broaden Taiwan’s financial offerings. He presented the measures as part of the effort to connect the financial sector with the needs of technology businesses.
Taiwan Weeks 2026 opened Tuesday and is scheduled to run through Nov. 13, CNA reported. This year’s theme is “From Tech Island to Capital Hub: Where Capital Meets Technology.” Peng said the event is expected to help international investors understand Taiwan’s investment opportunities and connect local industries with global counterparts.
