Taiwan President Lai Ching-te renewed a 2030 goal of 10 million annual international arrivals as a Taipei travel fair opened Friday, setting a benchmark against 8.574 million arrivals in 2025.

The government’s tourism-output target exceeds NT$1 trillion by 2030, the Presidential Office said, alongside the arrivals goal. In remarks at the opening, Lai listed service quality, Taiwan’s tourism brand and digital adoption by businesses as priorities. The government says central and local agencies will coordinate with private firms to carry out the work.

Plans include the use of artificial intelligence and big-data analysis by tourism businesses to assess traveler preferences and improve operating efficiency, the Presidential Office said. It describes these measures as part of an effort to raise Taiwan’s international competitiveness and make services more convenient for visitors, while lowering costs for operators. The office also pointed to Taiwan’s technology capabilities as a basis for smart tourism. Its Twalk program links six national trails, a project the government associates with global net-zero efforts and Taiwan’s hosting of the 2028 World Trails Conference.

The Taiwan Tourism Administration reported 8.574 million international arrivals in 2025. Residents took 247.61 million domestic trips that year, up 11.52% from 2024, and spent NT$564.3 billion, a 9.4% increase. The administration identified both domestic measures as records. The arrival total counts international visitors, while the domestic survey tracks trips and spending by residents within Taiwan.

The NT$1 trillion output goal also appeared in the Presidential Office’s statement at the 2025 travel fair. This year’s statement repeated it while specifying the annual international-arrival target.

The organizer says the 40th-anniversary event now carries the Taiwan International Travel Fair name. It lists 123 countries and cities among participants spread across 1,600 booths. The event runs through Monday, Nov. 9, at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 1.
