Taiwan’s Taiex rose 1.28% to 46,887.77 on Oct. 21, recovering from the previous session’s loss as dealers quoted by Focus Taiwan linked technology buying to a higher sales estimate from Super Micro Computer, Inc.
The benchmark gained 594.84 points, more than reversing its 529.15-point decline on Oct. 20, Taiwan Stock Exchange data showed. The earlier drop had left the index at 46,292.93.
Supermicro, a U.S. server maker, estimated revenue of US$18.5 billion to US$19.5 billion for the quarter ended Sept. 30. Its previous range was US$14.5 billion to US$15.5 billion. The company attributed the increase to demand for AI platforms. Dealers quoted by Focus Taiwan connected the update with purchases of Taiwan technology shares.
The exchange’s figures showed gains beyond technology. Its financial insurance index rose 2.55%, exceeding the electronics industry index’s 1.08% gain. The semiconductor index advanced 0.96%.
Among individual stocks, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. climbed NT$15 to close at NT$2,420, while Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. added NT$8.50 to NT$250. The exchange’s sector figures show that financial insurance outpaced electronics on a percentage basis, even as those two technology companies gained.
Supermicro also raised its gross margin estimate, citing its mix of customers and products. Its estimates are preliminary and unaudited, and final results may differ. The company has scheduled a call on its quarterly results for Nov. 3 at 5 p.m. ET.
