Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said he hoped Israel’s next government would work for peace, and called for a Palestinian state, Israeli security and an agreement on Hormuz.
Speaking at a Confindustria Energia assembly in Rome on Wednesday, Tajani said a Palestinian state should live peacefully alongside Israel. Commenting on the election, he said, “Let’s see the final results,” ANSA reported.
Israelis voted Oct. 27 for party lists for the 120-member Knesset; the ballot does not directly elect a prime minister. After results are published, the president consults parliamentary groups and assigns a Knesset member to try to form a government, a process EconoTimes previously outlined in its account of Israel’s party-list vote and government formation. The assignment is made within seven days of the results being published. A government must secure parliamentary support, and 61 seats make up a Knesset majority.
