Tata Motors Limited returned to profit in Q2 FY27, posting consolidated net profit after tax of ₹12.54 billion for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026, as revenue from operations rose 36.3% year over year.
The result compares with a consolidated loss of ₹8.67 billion in the year-earlier quarter. Revenue from operations reached ₹253.38 billion, against ₹185.85 billion in Q2 FY26. Tata Motors said lower losses from changes in the market value of its investments in Tata Capital Ltd. supported profitability.
After the group demerger, Tata Motors Limited is the listed commercial vehicle company, while Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited has a separate listing.
Tata Motors reported wholesales of 135,100 units, 42% above the year-earlier quarter; domestic volume rose 30% and exports 177%, as detailed in EconoTimes’ earlier coverage of quarterly sales and profit forecasts.
The consolidated EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) margin came in at 10.9%, down 40 basis points year over year. Chief Financial Officer GV Ramanan said costs including steel and rubber remained a pressure point.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Girish Wagh linked freight demand to infrastructure activity and fleet utilization. He said growth rates were expected to ease in the second half as comparisons become tougher. Tata Motors also named interest rates, diesel prices and the wider economic environment as factors it is monitoring.
Consolidated net cash was ₹15,900 crore as of Sept. 30. On a standalone basis, net cash was ₹11,300 crore, and free cash flow for the quarter was ₹4,600 crore.
The company’s release sets Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, as the closing date for its Iveco tender offer and Friday, Oct. 30, for settlement, provided the transaction completes successfully.
