Teachers Federal Credit Union said Oct. 16 it plans to open locations in Estero and Wesley Chapel, Florida, while moving its Farmingville, New York, branch to a larger site, extending in-person service for members in three communities.

To guide its branch strategy, Teachers said it partnered with JLL on market screening and combined internal data with assessments of market growth, demographics, competition and prospective site features. It describes branches as places where members can seek financial guidance in person while retaining access to nationwide digital banking.

Teachers identifies itself as member-owned and not-for-profit, with an open charter that allows anyone in the United States to join. The company says its local branches are intended to serve members in the communities where they operate.

Recent Florida additions include Lake Mary in 2026 and Naples in 2025. Teachers traces its Florida presence to a 2023 opening in Tampa’s Westshore district. It also opened a branch in Holbrook, New York, in 2025.

The Farmingville project moves an existing branch to 2240 North Ocean Ave. at Expressway Plaza. The branch page schedules lobby service to begin in fall 2026 and drive-up service by the end of 2026. Teachers has not announced addresses or opening dates for the Florida locations.

The expansion comes as membership across the U.S. credit union system has grown while the number of institutions has declined. The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) reported that federally insured credit unions had 146.1 million members as of June 30, 2026, an increase of 2.3 million from a year earlier. Their combined assets reached $2.50 trillion, up 5.0% year over year, while the number of federally insured credit unions fell to 4,214 from 4,370.
