CLEARWATER, Fla., March 24, 2016 -- Tech Data Corporation (Nasdaq:TECD) today announced the appointments of Richard T. (“Rich”) Hume to executive vice president, chief operating officer (COO) and John O’Shea to vice president, Global Business Development. Hume and O’Shea will be based at the company’s headquarter office in Clearwater, Fla. and will report to Bob Dutkowsky, chief executive officer.
“Tech Data is committed to an effective global operating model that enables us to do more for our vendors, our customers, and our employees than ever before,” said Dutkowsky. “To meet the demands of our markets, we continue to develop a global route-to-market approach; our global IT platform differentiates Tech Data and helps our channel partners efficiently go to market throughout the world, while our global cloud offering simplifies a complex emerging business for our customers. Following the addition of Tech Data’s first global Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) last year, we are now extending this model to include global field operations and business development, while increasing Tech Data’s global executive bench strength.”
As COO, Hume will lead Tech Data’s regional operations and will have two direct reports: Nestor Cano, president, Europe, and Joe Quaglia, president, the Americas. The company’s corporate functions, including Finance, Human Resources, IT, and Legal, will continue to report to Dutkowsky.
Hume joins Tech Data following a 30-year career with IBM, where he most recently served as general manager and chief operating officer, Global Technology Services, since January 2015. In this role, Hume was responsible for the operations of IBM’s $32 billion infrastructure and outsourcing services business, including strategic planning, financial functions, marketing, and business transformation. Prior to this role, from January 2012 to January 2015, he served as general manager, Europe, successfully leading IBM’s $27 billion, multi-brand European organization which included more than 30 countries, and held the top market position in Europe’s IT industry. Hume also served as general manager, Global Business Partners for more than three years, directing the growth and channel development initiatives for IBM’s Business Partner Channel. Over the course of his IBM career, Hume also led the company’s System X Servers, Global Inside Sales, North American PC business, and was COO for the Global Consulting business. He holds a B.S. in Accounting from Pennsylvania State University.
O’Shea will be responsible for strategic business development initiatives that drive growth through product expansion, acquisitions, partnerships and alliances. He returns to Tech Data from Vology, a leading managed IT solutions provider, where he has served as President since November 2014. Prior to joining Vology as senior vice president, Sales in July 2012, O’Shea was with Tech Data for 16 years. During his previous tenure at the company, he progressed through various leadership roles, including vice president, HP Solutions Group and vice president of Product Marketing, Networking. O’Shea was named Tech Data’s Vice President of the Year in 2011 and was recognized as a Young Hispanic Corporate Achiever by the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility in 2012. He holds a B.A. from the University of Florida and an MBA from Florida State University.
“We are thrilled to add proven leaders like Rich and John to Tech Data’s executive leadership team,” continued Dutkowsky. “Rich is a seasoned operations executive who brings a fresh perspective on the global IT industry, and a deep knowledge of the channel, our customers, and the competitive landscape in our geographies.
