Tesla remained South Korea’s leading imported-car brand for a ninth consecutive month in October, The Korea Herald reported, extending the U.S. automaker’s run in a market where it outpaced two major German rivals.
The Korea Herald reported Tesla recorded 9,165 South Korean registrations for the month, 110.7% above the year-earlier figure. It said the total surpassed Mercedes-Benz and BMW.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk highlighted the result on Friday, Nov. 6, by reposting an image of Taegeukgi, South Korea’s national flag, redesigned with Tesla’s “T” emblem, the newspaper reported. He added “Tesla Korea” above the repost, it said.
The Herald also described earlier posts. Musk wrote “Korea is awesome” in June after the Model Y took the top spot among passenger vehicles in South Korea, according to the report. In February, he shared Tesla openings in chip design, fabrication and AI software and urged Korean engineers to join the company, the paper said.
