Thai immigration officers arrested a 37-year-old Chinese national in Bangkok in a case involving a transnational crime network that Thai police linked to more than 500 million yuan in transactions.

Thai police said Chinese police were seeking him over suspected connections to the network and possible money laundering.

Thai police alleged he used more than 133 accounts to process cryptocurrency and foreign-exchange transactions. They also accused him of helping people in the network arrange visas. The account total applies to his alleged processing, while the yuan figure covers transactions linked to the network.

Thai police alleged he used false residence papers and altered a vehicle in an effort to avoid arrest. Officers also pointed to different license plates and changes in the car’s appearance.

Thai authorities said they would process the overstay under Thai law, then coordinate his removal to China for further investigation.
