Thailand's consumer sentiment snaps three months of gains, drops to 73.1 in October

University of the Thailand Chamber of Commerce data released earlier today showed Thailand's consumer sentiment has weakened for the first time in four months, due to concern about a recovery in the domestic and global economy plus low commodity prices.

Thailand's consumer sentiment index fell to 73.1 last month from 74.2 in September, after three months of gains, a survey showed on Thursday. The index fell despite positive factors such as the second consecutive month of exports growth in Sept, the government's affirmation of the 2016 economic growth rate projection of 3.3 percent.

An index that projects the mood of consumers over the next three months dropped to 81.6 in October from 82.7 in September, the university said.

Thailand mourns the passing of highly-revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej and consumers remain concerned about the pace of local and global economic recovery, the relatively-low level of farm product prices and the high cost of living.
