Bitcoin (BTC) led a reported three-year comparison of crypto, metals and Indian stock benchmarks, but posted a loss in one-year figures attributed to CoinDCX by The Economic Times, showing how rankings shifted across periods.

In a report published Oct. 21, The Economic Times listed a 234% three-year gain for Bitcoin. Silver gained 223.58%, gold 161.14% and Ether (ETH) 72.69%; the Nifty 50 rose 13.12% and the Sensex 8.48%. The outlet did not identify the exact dates covered.

For one year, the report showed Bitcoin down 28.67% and Ether down 40.93%. Silver gained 42.18% and gold 20.92%, while the Sensex declined 12.45% and the Nifty 50 fell 11.24%. Moneycontrol’s Oct. 7, 2026, snapshot listed matching one-year returns for the metals and Indian indexes, but not the crypto figures. The Economic Times did not state its data cutoff, and the reports do not specify the return period’s exact start date.

In a separate hypothetical plan, The Economic Times used 12 monthly deposits of ₹10,000, totaling ₹1,20,000. It put Bitcoin’s ending value at ₹1,31,598, gold at ₹1,24,483, silver at ₹1,21,516, the Nifty 50 at ₹1,08,405 and the Sensex at ₹1,08,161. Its Ether estimate was ₹1,30,491. Moneycontrol instead gave Ether’s value as ₹37,049 and called it the highest, although its own comparison listed Bitcoin at ₹1,31,598. The conflicting Ether figures remain unresolved.

Minal Thukral, Executive VP–Growth & Crypto Business Head at CoinDCX, told Moneycontrol: “A SIP spreads out the purchases. Those historical returns aren’t a forecast.”

The reports do not provide full calculation details, including the price sources or whether index returns include dividends, limiting direct comparison across the assets.
