‘The LEGO Ninjago Movie’ is set to feature Jackie Chan as Master Wu. In the newly released sneak peek video, Master Wu is seen battling a chicken.
In the new clip exclusively released by USA Today, waiting audiences were treated to a first look at Jackie Chan’s Master Wu in action. The clip was part of the feature entitled ‘The Master: A Lego Ninjago Short’, which was released ahead of the film’s scheduled premiere for September 2017.
The hilarious new footage showed Master Wu battling with a chicken on rooftops and courtyards. The chicken proves to be a formidable foe as Master Wu struggles to defeat it. Eventually, the courtyard is left in piles of rubble as the structures surrounding it are ultimately ruined.
Director Jon Saunders co-wrote the ‘Master’ short together with Ross Evans. According to MovieWeb, Saunders joked, “My writing partner and I went really off the wall showing Master Wu desperately wanting to star in his own short film, but this chicken keeps coming in and not allowing him to have his moment.”
He continued, “Abbi [Jacobson] put up with absurd directions such as 'Bock like a chicken running through a field about to embrace a lover' Or 'Bock like a chicken as if your heart has been broken.' Stuff like that.”
Saunders added, “It’s control vs. chaos. Wu is this character very much in control of his entire world, almost obsessive-compulsive (about) maintaining perfect order… Chicken is free-flow and chaos. When Master Wu accepts that it’s OK his temple got ruined, that nothing is perfect, that’s when they come into harmony.”
The video served as a sneak peek into the legendary Master Wu’s martial arts skills. Chan’s Sensei leads a group of young ninjas composed of Dave Franco as Lloyd, Michael Pena as Kal, Kumail Nanjiani as Jay, Fred Armisen as Cole, Zach Woods as Zane, and Abbi Jacobson as Nya. Justin Theroux plays the villainous Lord Garmadon while Olivia Munn plays Koko.
The upcoming film is directed by Charlie Bean and co-directed by Paul Fisher and Bob Logan. It is written for the big screen by Dan Hageman, Kevin Hageman, Kevin Chesley, and Bryan Shukoff. It is based on Lego’s toyline Lego Ninjago that was first made available in 2011.
‘The LEGO Ninjago Movie’ is an upcoming 3D-animated action-comedy and martial arts film scheduled to premiere in theaters on September 22, 2017. It is produced by Animal Logic, LEGO System A/S, Lin Pictures, Lord Miller, Vertigo Entertainment, Warner Animation Group, and Warner Bros. Animation.
