‘The Night Shift’ season 3, episode 2 continues with TC and Scott’s rescue of a woman and her child who were gravely injured in a car accident. Meanwhile, Drew and his new colleague Syd are struggling with the pressures in their overseas working environment during their deployment in Afghanistan.
More drama unfolds for the physicians on season 3 as revealed on the synopsis posted on Carter Matt. It stated, “In the second half of this two-part episode, TC (Eoin Macken) and Scott (Scott Wolf) work desperately to save a young boy and his mother who were injured in a car accident. With the boy’s life hanging in the balance, the team starts to realize there is more to the family dynamic than meets the eye. Meanwhile, Drew (Brendan Fehr) and Syd (Jennifer Beals), deployed overseas in Afghanistan, deal with the aftermath of shots fired in the OR.”
Season 3 opens with a two-part special followed the rescue of two car accident survivors back in the San Antonio Medical Center while Drew and Syd are serving time overseas in Afghanistan.
In the previous episode, entitled "The Times They Are A-Changin”, TC, Scott and Topher (Ken Leung) attempted to race against time to save a gravely injured woman while Jordan (Jill Flint) recruited a medical graduate eager to prove herself. Shannon (Tanaya Beatty), the outspoken addition to the team doesn’t exactly blend well with the other night shift members, specifically with Paul (Robert Bailey Jr.).
TC and Jordan are also struggling with coming to terms with moving forward professionally following Jordan’s rejection of TC’s marriage proposal and the whole miscarriage fiasco. The two maintain their boundaries are they are forced to work together again despite Topher’s attempts of keeping them in separate schedules.
Season 3 also premiered with the introduction of Beals as a new army doctor in the series. According to Entertainment Weekly, Beals is set to guest star in six episodes in NBC’s medical drama. The 52-year old actress is best known for her role in television series ‘The L Word’, where she was nominated for a Satellite Award for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama. She also starred in the 1983 cult film ‘Flashdance’, where she earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.
Episode 1 found Drew and Syd struggling with the cultural divide in Afghanistan after they are presented with a 15-year old pregnant Afghani patient who fears her husband deeply. The episode ended with a cliffhanger after shots were fired in the operating room.
‘The Night Shift’ season 3, episode 2 is scheduled to air on NBC on June 8, 2016.
