‘The Walking Dead’ season 7 is set to introduce two new female characters by the names of Naomi and Jennie. It was also reported that Negan and Rick share similar backstories as revealed by the “Here’s Negan” comic book. The new season may explore more of Negan’s origin story.
According to i09.com, two new female characters will be introduced in the incoming season of AMC’s horror-drama television series. The casting call expanded by the Spoil The Dead forum stated that Naomi will be a grandmotherly type who struggles against all odds to protect people following her harsh experiences on surviving the zombie apocalypse. Meanwhile, Jennie will be a young woman who stays optimistic despite losing her loved ones to the devastation.
The casting call posted needed an actress in her 60s to portray Naomi and another actress, specifically an 18-year old, to play Jennie. Another article on Moviefone elaborated Naomi as a determined elder who is determined to keep people safe while Jennie was likened to Beth. The two women sound as though they are women who gained natural killer instincts in order to survive.
Meanwhile, Andrew Lincoln’s lead protagonist Rick Grimes and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s newest villain Negan may not be as different as previously thought. According to Cleveland.com, Image Comics rolled out the Negan’s backstory in the company’s monthly magazine. Image Comics published Robert Kirkman’s original ‘The Walking Dead’ comic books.
The “Here’s Negan” comic released 48 pages so far and features the antagonist’s origins before the world was overrun by the undead. It introduced him as a gym teacher with a bad attitude. He had a wife and a mistress. He eventually changes his ways upon learning of his wife’s cancer diagnosis and dedicates his life to help her fight her illness.
He finds himself abandoned in a hospital at the start of the apocalypse. This backstory is likened to Rick’s. The television series began with Rick waking up from a months-long coma to find himself in a world destroyed by zombies. He eventually reunites with his family and becomes the leader of a group of survivors.
More pages of the “Here’s Negan” comic book will roll out in the next few months before the series’ seventh season premieres on October 2016 on AMC.
‘The Walking Dead’ is a horror-drama television series based on the comic book of the same name created by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. It first premiered on AMC on October 2010. The series was received well by critics and was even nominated for several accolades including the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama.
