George RR Martin already missed the deadline he himself set for the completion of “The Winds of Winter.” As he posted last year, the sixth book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” will be in his hands by July 2020, but apparently, he was not able to keep this promise.
Now, his fans are wondering when the 71-year-old author will finally be able to release “The Winds of Winter” since it has been in the works for nine years now. Also, fans are curious if someone will really “imprison” GRRM in a cabin since he told everyone through his blog that they have his permission to do so if he is unable to deliver the book by the time he attends the 2020 World Science Fiction Convention in New Zealand.
Is Martin close to finishing the much-awaited book?
The WorldCon has been canceled, but still, Martin should have released “The Winds of Winter” by now. But unfortunately, rather than a publication announcement, George RR Martin revealed in his new update that he still has a long way to go from completing the follow up to the fifth book titled “A Dance with Dragons.”
He assured fans, though that he is working in isolation in a cabin where he has been holed up since the COVID-19 outbreak. The author shared that he has been writing all day long since there is no distraction in the mountains.
“I am spending long hours every day on ‘THE WINDS OF WINTER’ and making steady progress,” he wrote. “I finished a new chapter yesterday, another one three days ago, another one the previous week.”
The “ASOIAF” series may end with “The Winds of Winter”
Now, even if Martin released “TWOW” sooner or later, the bad news is that readers may not be able to see “A Day of Spring” anymore. The seventh and final book may not see the light of day because even at this time, the author is not done with the sixth yet.
It should be noted that the fifth book was published in 2011 and if GRRM already needs this much time to write another book, then there is a big possibility that he will not finish the entire series. Rather, Express wrote that he might just add more chapters in “The Winds of Winter” to end everything there.
The main reason for this assumption is not just the long period that Martin may take to write but his age and health are the other major grounds. He already admitted that he is struggling to finish “The Winds of Winter” and at his age, the future of “A Dream of Spring” is dim. Meanwhile, the release date of “TWOW” is still unknown as of today.
