Parliamentary sources told dpa that thousands of emails flooded mailboxes used by Left Party lawmakers in Germany’s parliament, leaving them unusable.
Although email traffic across parliament slowed, the Bundestag’s servers had enough capacity, the sources said. They described the incoming messages as varied in sender, subject line and language.
The sources said affected lawmakers received guidance on filtering the messages. The Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (BSI), Germany’s federal information-security office, was involved.
