President Bola Tinubu extended the terms of Nigeria's correctional and immigration service chiefs by 18 months, with the presidency saying the move addressed a succession gap in both services.

Controller-General Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche will remain in his role at the Nigerian Correctional Service through May 26, 2028. Comptroller-General Kemi Nanna Nandap will lead the Nigeria Immigration Service through June 30, 2028, the presidency said in an Oct. 19 statement.

Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo recommended both extensions. The presidency said the board needed more time to choose the next leaders. Tinubu praised reforms achieved under the two chiefs and urged them to build on that work.

Nandap’s new term follows an earlier extension in March 2025, which moved her then-scheduled end date from Aug. 31, 2025, to Dec. 31, 2026, the presidency said in a separate statement. The Oct. 19 announcement did not give a date for appointing successors.
