Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) will make current chief operating officer (COO) Mark Templin its president and CEO on Jan. 1, 2027, while appointing a Toyota Motor Corporation executive to its regional COO role.
Templin will succeed Ted Ogawa, TMNA’s current president and CEO, who will remain in that position through Dec. 31, 2026. Hiroshi Nambu, president of Toyota Motor Corporation’s Business Planning & Operation division, is scheduled to become COO. Ogawa took the TMNA chief executive role in April 2020, the company said.
TMNA said Templin will oversee North American factories, research and development, sales and marketing, product support and corporate functions. Toyota said the changes are intended to develop experienced global leaders and strengthen cooperation among regions. Templin said, “I’m honored to build on the foundation he established.”
TMNA cited manufacturing investment during Ogawa’s tenure, including a nearly $14 billion investment in its North Carolina battery plant, which opened in 2025 and is expected to create up to 5,100 jobs. The company also pointed to plans for up to $10 billion in additional U.S. investment over five years, bringing its stated U.S. total to nearly $60 billion.
The company also cited a planned $3.6 billion expansion of its San Antonio manufacturing operations, which is expected to create about 2,000 jobs.
The two company notices give different dates for Ogawa’s Senior Fellow role. TMNA says he will serve as a Senior Executive Advisor from January through March 2027, then take the Senior Fellow post in April; Toyota Motor Corporation’s roster lists Tetsuo Ogawa in that role effective Jan. 1, 2027.
Toyota Motor Corporation’s broader personnel announcement also named new CEOs for China and Asia. The North American leadership changes are scheduled to take effect Jan. 1, 2027.
