Group revenue declined 1.6% in the quarter ended Sept. 30.

Like-for-like revenue fell 1.3% for the quarter and 0.9% in the first nine months of 2026. Residential construction remained a particularly weak area amid continued economic uncertainty.

The comparison was with a third quarter last year that included deeper promotional activity, which Travis Perkins said it was now annualizing. The company also identified input-cost inflation as an issue for its Merchanting operation.

Merchanting revenue declined 2.2% on a like-for-like basis. Sales volumes fell 9%, while price and mix rose 6.8%. As volumes fell, Merchanting focused on higher-margin transactions and tighter credit management to limit pressure on earnings.

Toolstation UK recorded 3.6% like-for-like growth. Toolstation Benelux was down 4.7%. Travis Perkins said the Benelux business continued to face challenges and that it was considering opportunities connected with its current strategic review.

The Independent reported that the Northampton-based group has 17,000 employees and operates from 1,500 locations across the UK. Its businesses include the Travis Perkins merchant operation, Toolstation, Keyline, BSS and CCF. The Independent also reported that shares fell nearly 3% at one point Thursday before trading about 1.5% lower later in the day.

Chief Executive Officer Gavin Slark said the group’s cost controls and trading approach were supporting profits, with more efficiency measures under way. The group plans to give investors more detail on its strategy and operations alongside its March 2027 preliminary results.
