President Donald Trump is campaigning for Republicans in Mississippi ahead of the Nov. 3 midterms, while Reuters has described the state's Senate matchup as highly competitive.

Reuters described the race between Republican incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith and Scott Colom as highly competitive but gave no poll names or figures. The Associated Press (AP) reports a 53-47 Senate split in Republicans' favor. AP dates Mississippi's last Democratic Senate victory to 1982 and says Colom could become the state's first Black U.S. senator since Reconstruction. EconoTimes has previously reported on the race between Hyde-Smith and Colom.

CBS News reported Trump was campaigning in Mississippi and other strongly Republican states. Its coverage also examined the White House's midterm strategy and said gasoline prices were near levels seen during former President Joe Biden's administration.

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) lists Nov. 3 as the general election date.
