U.S. President Donald Trump praised Boeing’s 737 Max on Thursday, highlighting the aircraft’s durability after the model survived an attempted crash involving a Flydubai flight bound for Tel Aviv.

Trump said the Boeing 737 Max demonstrated an ability to “withstand G Forces and Strain far beyond what it was designed and expected to do.” While he did not directly mention the Flydubai incident in his remarks, the president also praised Boeing and its CEO, Kelly Ortberg.

The comments came after Israeli officials said passengers and crew aboard a Flydubai flight on Tuesday prevented a co-pilot from deliberately crashing the aircraft.

During the incident, the Boeing 737 Max reportedly plunged nearly 14,000 feet in less than 30 seconds, putting the aircraft and those on board under extreme conditions. Despite the sudden descent, passengers and crew managed to regain control of the jet.

The aircraft was subsequently diverted and landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. No fatalities were reported in the incident.

Trump’s comments focused on the plane’s ability to withstand the severe forces generated during the rapid descent. His praise also comes as Boeing continues efforts to strengthen confidence in the 737 Max, one of the company’s most important commercial aircraft models.

The attempted crash has drawn attention to both aviation security and the performance of the Boeing aircraft during an unusually dangerous situation. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the co-pilot’s alleged actions and any potential motive.

Flydubai, a Dubai-based airline, operates Boeing 737 aircraft across its international network, including routes connecting the United Arab Emirates with destinations across the Middle East and beyond.

The safe landing in Saudi Arabia followed what officials described as a dramatic intervention by passengers and crew, who were able to prevent the aircraft from crashing despite its rapid loss of altitude.

Trump’s remarks put renewed attention on Boeing and the 737 Max as investigators continue examining the Flydubai incident.
