Press Trust of India reported that President Donald Trump used a Florida rally Friday to claim threatened 250% U.S. tariffs helped stop India-Pakistan fighting in 2025, a claim India has rejected.

Trump said he warned both countries they would lose access to U.S. trade if the fighting continued. He said they stopped shooting after the warning and that the conflict was over. He also referred to 11 planes being shot down.

Trump used the episode to bolster his account of his diplomatic record, telling the crowd, “I've settled eight wars.” He expressed disappointment at not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize and said he had not called the United Nations for help.

India says it accepted Pakistan’s request to halt military action on May 10, after Indian strikes on key terror launchpads. New Delhi has repeatedly said the two countries reached their own understanding to stop military action, disputing Trump’s claim that he brokered the ceasefire.

Operation Sindoor followed an April 22 attack in Pahalgam that killed several people. India launched the operation in May 2025 and described the sites it targeted in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir as terrorist infrastructure.
