President Donald Trump said the sitting president “doesn’t win the midterms” during Nov. 2 remarks, before the Nov. 3 election that put 470 congressional seats on the ballot.

The White House video lists the remarks as taking place on Nov. 2 at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. “For some reason, the sitting president doesn’t win the midterms. But we gave this a very strong shot,” Trump said.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) listed all 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats as up for election on Nov. 3. USAGov says the election determines which party can command each chamber over the following two years.

House members serve two-year terms. Senators serve six-year terms, with only part of the Senate facing election in a given cycle, USAGov says. The Associated Press reported that no further public address was on Trump’s schedule before Nov. 3.

EconoTimes previously covered Trump’s election-eve remarks.
