At a South Carolina rally, President Donald Trump said Google CEO Sundar Pichai had urged him to abandon an idea to rename the Atlantic Ocean. Trump recounted an unverified exchange, saying Pichai objected that an ocean’s name affects many countries.

The Independent reported Trump’s account and said it had contacted Google for comment. Its report included no response from the company.

Trump said the Atlantic and Pacific were the only oceans he would consider naming after himself or America. “I’m not gonna put either ‘Trump’ or ‘America’ on any other ocean but these two,” he said. He also floated calling the Pacific the “American Ocean” and asked how Europe might react. Europe borders the Atlantic Ocean, not the Pacific, The Independent noted.

The comments extend EconoTimes’ earlier coverage of Trump saying he would probably leave the Atlantic’s name unchanged.
