A short-term rise in gasoline prices tied to the Iran war became part of the debate over Republican midterm losses, as President Donald Trump said Wednesday he would still make the same decision.

Anadolu Agency reported that Trump made the comments during a White House exchange with reporters. He said the United States had no choice but to act, telling reporters, “You have no choice.” Trump said the operation was needed to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Trump agreed that the war contributed to Republican losses, citing a short-term rise in gasoline prices. Vice President JD Vance had blamed the conflict in a post on X linking it to the party’s defeat. Trump described Vance’s post as “good.”

Trump also said Republicans would have won if he had been on the ballot. He said the enthusiasm at his rallies did not transfer to Republican candidates. In a later CNBC interview, Trump said he saw scope for cooperation with Democratic majorities on a wider range of issues in the next Congress than people realize.
