President Donald Trump has asked allies whether to replace White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, Politico reported, raising the possibility of a leadership change ahead of the midterm elections.

A Republican elected official whose opinion Trump sought told Politico that he had discussed Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and New York Yankees executive Randy Levine. Other names in the report included Steve Witkoff, a longtime Trump friend and peace negotiator, and federal housing chief Bill Pulte.

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was also raised as a possible choice. His allies told Politico that his relationship with Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries could help ease tensions if Democrats control Congress after the midterms.

Trump told Politico that Wiles “has my COMPLETE confidence” and criticized the outlet’s journalism. A Republican operative separately told Politico that Wiles had “burned a lot of people” while leading the administration.

Wiles has outlasted the four people who held the chief of staff job before her under Trump, The Independent reported.
