President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo accused opposition politicians of using a Belgian money-laundering investigation to target his family, calling it a “plot.” He made the remarks to Congolese residents in Moscow on Oct. 30.

Belgium’s Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office said searches took place Oct. 14 in Brussels and municipalities in Flemish Brabant and Walloon Brabant. Prosecutors said complaints submitted by nongovernmental organizations in July 2025 led to the inquiry.

Prosecutors cited confidentiality rules and the presumption of innocence when declining to comment further. The office has not identified who was searched, leaving Tshisekedi’s claim that the investigation targets his relatives as an allegation rather than an official finding.
