U.S. conservative commentator Tucker Carlson accused President Donald Trump of putting Israel’s interests ahead of Americans, arguing that the U.S. role in Middle East wars could impose costs on the country.
Carlson made the accusation Thursday in comments on his podcast, which was published on X. The remarks came days after Republican defeats in the Nov. 3 midterm elections.
“It’s wrong for a leader to choose another country over you,” Carlson said. He used a family analogy to argue that leaders should put their own citizens first.
Carlson warned that continued U.S. wars on Israel’s behalf could weaken U.S. power, cost lives and harm the country financially. He cited the 2003 Iraq War, claiming the United States entered it in response to Israeli demands, and referred to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He presented those losses as possible consequences of continued U.S. involvement, rather than outcomes that had already occurred.
