Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met Maxime Prévot, Belgium’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister, in Brussels on Oct. 19, Anadolu Agency reported, citing diplomatic sources, ahead of wider talks on security, migration and visas.

The encounter preceded an Oct. 20 meeting of the two countries’ foreign, justice and interior ministers. Their previous session in this format was held in Ankara on March 9, 2016, according to a joint statement issued at the time.

Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry listed migration and visas among the issues for the Brussels meeting. Other topics on the ministry’s agenda range from consular matters and regional developments to counterterrorism and cooperation between the countries’ police and courts.

The 2016 joint statement recorded discussions of migration and extradition requests related to terrorism. It also identified earlier meetings in Istanbul in 2008 and Brussels in 2013.

Separately, NATO said Secretary-General Mark Rutte is scheduled to meet Fidan in Brussels on Oct. 20.
