NDTV reported that Tushar Kumar, 23, will join his mother, Hertsmere Mayor Parveen Rani, at the NDTV World Summit 2026 in New Delhi on Oct. 22.
The outlet said their session is titled “The Diaspora Impact - From Rohtak to Mayors in the UK.” NDTV listed the summit dates as Oct. 22 and 23 and gave its theme as “A World Between Orders.” The report described the event as bringing together world leaders, policymakers, technology experts and others to discuss global issues.
Kumar joined Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council in 2023 as a Labour member, NDTV reported. He had earlier stood for a seat on Hertsmere Borough Council but did not win one. A recount later secured him a town council seat, and he went on to serve as deputy mayor before becoming mayor, the outlet said.
Kumar was born in Rohtak, Haryana, and moved to Britain with his family when he was 10, according to NDTV. He attended Loxford School in Ilford and studied political science at King’s College London. The report said Kumar credited the university’s Civic Leadership Academy with helping him build confidence and public-speaking skills.
NDTV also reported that Kumar had spoken to the BBC about his political ambitions, saying he hoped to become prime minister of the United Kingdom. The summit appearance comes as he takes on a local mayoral role after joining town council three years earlier, the outlet said.
