Asian Indian voters surveyed in 2026 favored Democratic congressional candidates, while two reviews found prominent Indian-American donors gave more to Republican groups ahead of the Nov. 3 U.S. election.
Hindustan Times reported Oct. 24 that its analysis counted more than $15.8 million for Republican-linked political action committees and funds since 2025, against about $3.7 million for Democratic causes. An IANS review published by IndiaWest on Oct. 20 tallied $10.8 million for Republican committees and groups and $3.3 million for Democrats among 11 donors.
The 2026 AAPI Voter Survey, conducted by APIAVote and AAPI Data, found that 66% of Asian Indian respondents preferred the Democratic candidate for Senate, compared with 22% for the Republican. For House candidates, 66% preferred the Democrat and 18% the Republican. The survey included 148 Asian Indian respondents for the Senate question and 242 for the House question.
The donor reviews and survey measure different things: reported contributions and candidate preferences. The Federal Election Commission’s public contributor records do not identify people by ethnicity, so neither review is an official agency total for Indian-American giving. IndiaWest/IANS identified its 11 donors; the Hindustan Times article did not provide a complete donor list or detailed calculation.
IndiaWest/IANS attributed about $7.1 million of its Republican tally to three contributions to MAGA Inc. from Asha Jadeja Motwani, Krishna Tripuraneni and Anjani Sinha. An FEC filing records a $1 million receipt from Sinha on Feb. 20, 2025. The FEC lists MAGA Inc. as a hybrid political action committee with a non-contribution account.
Shekar Narasimhan, a Democratic donor and investment adviser, told Hindustan Times: “The people giving less than $1,000 are Democrats now. The people giving more than half a million dollars are Republicans.”
The next regularly scheduled federal general election is set for Nov. 3, 2026, according to the FEC.
