Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) received praise from Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel for its role in two U.S. extraditions tied to child sextortion cases, BusinessDay reported.

BusinessDay based its account on comments from Bayo Onanuga, an adviser to the president on information strategy. Onanuga said Patel wrote to EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede and recognized the commission’s contribution to Operation Artemis, a joint investigation targeting networks involved in sexually exploiting and extorting children.

The operation led to the August 2026 arrest and extradition to the United States of Adebola Festus Adekunle and Mudasiru Afeez Olawale, BusinessDay reported. Both men face federal charges in the United States, the outlet said.

President Bola Tinubu described the FBI’s recognition as a sign of Nigeria’s progress in combating financial crime and strengthening international law enforcement cooperation, according to Onanuga. Tinubu praised Olukoyede and the commission’s team, expressed support for law enforcement and anti-corruption institutions, and urged the EFCC and other agencies to continue their work.
