Typhoon Champi brought large surf to Taiwan’s northeast coast Friday, prompting the CEOC to urge people away from shorelines as the storm’s weather effects continued across the island.

Al Jazeera’s Friday video report showed powerful surf along Taiwan’s northeastern shoreline. The CEOC urged residents to avoid the shore as waves remained high.

Earlier EconoTimes coverage of the storm’s evacuation update and casualties reported the updated tally.

Taiwan’s Executive Yuan had warned that Champi’s outer circulation could combine with strengthening northeasterly winds and raise heavy-rain risks in northern and northeastern areas, including Yilan and Hualien.
