The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) said the seasonally adjusted index rose 0.8% from June to September, after a 0.9% increase in the previous quarter.

The index covers wages, salaries and benefits.

For civilian workers, compensation costs were 3.4% higher than a year earlier in Q3. That figure is not seasonally adjusted. The 3.4% figure covers the 12 months through September; the 0.8% figure measures the seasonally adjusted change from June through September.
