U.S. military and intelligence leaders met at a Thursday summit in Colorado to discuss terrorist threats and ways for federal agencies to exchange information and coordinate responses, Anadolu Agency reported.
The third annual US Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) Counterterrorism Summit was held at Peterson Space Force Base. Gen. Gregory Guillot, who leads both USNORTHCOM and the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), co-chaired the meeting with Adm. Frank Bradley, head of US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), Anadolu reported.
Senior leaders and experts took part from a range of military and civilian bodies, including federal law enforcement, the National Counterterrorism Center, the National Security Council, the Department of Defense and the Homeland Security Council, the report said. They reviewed longstanding and emerging terrorist threats and discussed intelligence sharing and coordination across government agencies.
Guillot said effective asymmetric defense of the United States requires more than military capability. He emphasized bringing together international partnerships and operational readiness with the legal, intelligence and law-enforcement tools available to the government, Anadolu reported.
Bradley said terrorism continues to threaten Americans and U.S. interests at home and overseas, the agency reported. Participants also discussed cooperation between civilian and military agencies, aligning priorities and identifying gaps in homeland defense.
