Treasury drew attention Saturday to a SecScottBessent post on Operation Economic Outcast, which aims to cut off illicit sources of revenue.

Treasury said the campaign began Aug. 24 at President Trump's direction and is meant to restrict revenue flowing to Iran's regime. The department described a government-wide effort to disrupt networks tied to oil smuggling, sanctions evasion and terror financing. It said it was coordinating with U.S. agencies and partners, including the European Union, the United Kingdom and Gulf countries. EconoTimes previously covered the operation's launch and stated scope.

Last week, Treasury said it sanctioned 16 individuals and 10 entities under the campaign. The department accused an Iraqi bank of helping Iran gain access to international finance and supporting Iranian-backed militia groups. In its launch announcement, Treasury also invoked the World War II D-Day campaign as an analogy for the effort.
