The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) approved Eli Lilly’s oral medicine Foundayo for adults with type 2 diabetes, making the UAE the third country to authorize it for that condition.
The UAE had registered Foundayo for chronic weight management in April, becoming the second country to do so, according to EconoTimes’ earlier account of the weight-management approval.
The EDE describes Foundayo (orforglipron) as a non-peptide GLP-1 receptor agonist taken as a pill once a day. Patients do not need to coordinate doses with meals or water intake, the authority said. It said the treatment is intended to improve blood-glucose control and help manage weight over time when used with diet and physical activity under medical supervision.
The authority said the approval is intended to broaden access to treatment options for chronic conditions. It also urged regular screening and continued medical follow-up to identify diabetes early and help prevent complications.
