Singapore and the United Arab Emirates discussed opportunities to broaden cooperation in four sectors at an Oct. 21 meeting in Dubai, with both governments seeking stronger bilateral ties.

WAM reported that Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong met Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in Dubai during Wong’s official visit to the UAE. Maktoum is Dubai’s First Deputy Ruler and the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance.

The sides discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in financial services, logistics, technology and the digital economy. They also considered ways to broaden cooperation between government institutions and business communities, drawing on each side’s capabilities to deepen economic ties.

WAM described Dubai and Singapore as global centers for trade, finance and business, with strengths that can link markets and support trade and capital flows. Maktoum said shifts in the global economy create opportunities for the UAE to pursue strategic partnerships supporting sustainable development, investment and trade, WAM reported.

The UAE and Singapore established a Comprehensive Partnership in 2019. WAM said the framework widened cooperation across sectors and provided a basis for shared economic and development aims.
