The United Arab Emirates will bar ciprofloxacin in veterinary medicines and raw materials from Nov. 1, a step the regulator says is aimed at limiting drug resistance that could undermine human treatment.

The measure applies to nine veterinary products, eight imported and one registered in the UAE. Starting Nov. 1, companies may no longer manufacture, import or supply those products. They must clear existing units from the local market before the date and send the Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) documents showing the required withdrawal and handling steps were completed; remaining stock must be re-exported or disposed of under approved procedures. EDE is developing a compliance-monitoring plan. The agency’s assessment drew on antimicrobial-resistance information, including studies submitted by United Arab Emirates University. It said veterinary misuse could help bacteria become harder to treat and may weaken medicines used in human care. The announcement concerns animal medicines and raw materials containing ciprofloxacin and does not announce any change to prescriptions for people. It did not identify the products by name.

The UAE Lottery said Anilkumar Bolla won Lucky Day Draw #251018, held Oct. 18, 2025. The operator announced him Oct. 27 as the first recipient of its AED 100 million grand prize. In a one-year update, Gulf News and Khaleej Times reported that Bolla said he had bought property in the UAE and India, helped family and was considering starting a business. Gulf News reported that he described time with his family as the year’s most important part.

For Ramadan 1448 AH, the International Astronomical Center’s calendar points to Feb. 8, 2027, as day one. The National reported that Eid Al Fitr may begin Mar. 9 or 10, depending on Ramadan’s length and the official crescent sighting.

Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024 sets UAE Eid holidays for the first three days of Shawwal. It also designates Ramadan’s 30th day as a holiday when the month lasts 30 days. In that scenario, the holiday period could extend to six days including a weekend; the official dates will depend on the UAE’s moon-sighting decision.
